Each year we learn something new..
When we first started this cattle business, we learned so much. Each year we would look back and were amazed at how much had changed and how much we had learned. We know so much more now than we did then. Each year be build on our base of knowledge, but when we look back, sometimes it doesn't feel like we are learning as much now. Maybe we haven't been learning as many things, but each lesson is just as valuable as the things we learned in those early years.

Showing cattle involves a lot of hurrying up...
Hurry and get to the show to feed your animals. Hurry to the wash stall before it gets full. Hurry and get your cow dry before the icicles form. Then you wait... We just came home from our seventh year at the Ohio Beef Expo. I can't believe it has been seven years already. As always, the week is packed full and always fun. Daniel arrived at the fairgrounds early Wednesday morning to post stall assignments and move in all our equipment.
I was at work and Isaac and Walker were getting in one final day of school, so Daniel was on his own for all the heavy lifting. Yes...I know...we have been showing all winter. Just about every other weekend since November, we have been at a show. But...it's time for the grand finale... The Ohio Beef Expo! Our favorite show of the year.
Yes...our favorite because we are down right tired and just want to be done... It's that time of year again. Time to nominate your cattle for the Best of the Buckeye. What is the Best of the Buckeye?
It is a program sponsored by the Ohio Cattlemen's Association that recognizes cattle that are born and bred in Ohio. Why is this important? A showman walks into the show ring with his cow all clean, fitted and looking fine. The showman isn't looking too shabby himself with his crisp, clean shirt, fancy show jeans, cowboy hat and boots to match. But getting to the show ring looking like a million bucks is easier said than done. You see...there is a whole lot of poop going on back in those barns...
And it is no easy feat keeping the poop where it is supposed to be and not all over the kid. They have learned not to show their emotion in the show ring. To not let the frustration show. But to me...I see so much emotion in their faces. I watch them in the show ring and I can almost tell what they are thinking by the look on their face.
This was our 4th year to attend the North American International Expo.
âThis year was different for us because not only were we exhibiting, but we were also in charge of the Miniature Hereford show.
It was a very busy week, but it was a good week....mostly.
We leave for Louisville, Kentucky this week to show at the North American International Livestock Expo. This is the first show of the season for us. We never feel ready enough, but ready or not, hear we come. We spent the weekend making final preparations.
We finally went found time to get out of town for a few days of rest and relaxation...well sort of...Daniel is still working. I am also taking a break from the computer. So I will make this short and leave you with a few photos from this summer.
