On December 10th we were at the 2nd BEST show of the season. The AGR Holiday Classic is always a fun one because it is our first show at the Ohio State Fairgrounds. Being close to home means we get to sleep in our own beds...even if we do have to get up before the crack of dawn to drive the hour into town. This weekend also happened to be our first cold snap of the year and probably the coldest weekend we have had in two years. We were spoiled last year with all the warm weather, but we were snapped back into the reality of winter this weekend.
My 10 pictures this month are a day in the life of a show weekend. Each year is the ending for some and the beginning for others. Just when you get your cows right where you want them to be, it is time for them to graduate from the show circuit and you get to start all over again with a new set of cows. Last month, N.A.I.L.E. marked the end of the show life for Rain and Six but was just the beginning for our new show herd. Calving season is such an anxious and important time of year for us. Not just because we are busy making sure that we have healthy calves, but it is also the time that we have to ensure we have cows to restock our show circuit.
If your house is anything like ours, there is stuff everywhere. The last thing we need this holiday season is more stuff.
I am pretty good at buying useful items for those on my Christmas list, but when it comes to filling the stockings, I sometimes have a difficult time. If you aren't careful, you can wrap up a lot of money in just filling the stockings. It can be very tempting to run to the dollar store to just find "filler" items. However, most of those filler items don't really have a purpose outside of filling up space in the stocking. But, if they are just filling up space in the stocking, most likely you will find them filling up space in your house after Christmas is over.
Over the years I have found many useful items to fill the stockings with. The boys were talking the other day about the things they usually get in their stockings.
So, I am pretty predictable. But, they weren't discussing the "usual items" in disgust...they were actually looking forward to getting those things again this year. And...I do usually throw in a few extra items to surprise them. |
