About this time of year it seems like the winter will never end. The days are cold, the nights come early and the sun rarely shines it's rays (at least here in Ohio). Will spring ever come? Chores are always harder around the farm during the winter. Not only do you have to feed hay and keep water from freezing, but you have to do it in the dark and with 15 layers of clothes on. Here are 5 ways to avoid the winter chore blues.

Throughout our daily routines, we have come across some great products. Some of these products are common, some unique, some new on the market and some old fashioned, but they are all things that we love. Ohio can have very unpredictable weather. Earlier this week we had the largest snowfall of the winter (not much, but still the largest). Today we are expected to reach into the 60's and have beautiful sunshine.
This year I have challenged myself to pick up my camera, take pictures and get better at it. On the 10th day of each month, I am going to take 10 pictures. My hope is that you will get a glimpse of the smaller details of our lives and that you will see improvement in the pictures that I take. I also hope that you enjoy this as much as I do. February was a challenge for me. I had to make some stops on the way home from work and it was dark before I got home. I was hoping to be able to take some pictures outside, but that didn't happen. Wednesday was also really cold, and it turns out I am pretty wussy when it comes to cold weather.
This weekend marks the half way point for the 2015-16 Ohio Cattlemen's Association BEST show season. It has been a different year for us, but in a good way. This is the first year that we have a class just for the miniature breeds. Since we have our own class, we decided to focus on our Miniature Herefords and not have Isaac show a full-sized steer.
Most of the BEST shows are formatted with heifers on one day and steers on the other day with a rotating schedule, so we have been able to reduce the number of days we are at the shows. The boys have missed out on some of the fun by not being there on some of the Sundays, but it has made the show season much more manageable for us to be home that extra day. Not to mention that it has saved on the hotel bills. |

AuthorHello! I am Heather... the city girl turned mom to manure loving country boys. My husband and I both grew up in the city, but spent weekends visiting grandparents in the country. We are first generation farmers who learn best by almost always doing things the hard way. I hope you enjoy following along with our adventures down on the farm. Archives
