Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial start of summer. Many schools are out, and our boys have one school (play) day left. Gardens are being planted, if not already done, and vacation plans are being made. On this weekend, everyone has their own special way that they remember those that have served our country. Some celebrate by attending a parade, placing flags at the graves of veterans or attending a memorial program. It is very easy to take advantage of an extra day off to pack the weekend full of activities and to-do lists. One of my favorite things to do on this weekend is to sit out on the back patio, soak up some beautiful sunshine and read a good book.

Forty. It seems like such and old number...until you get there yourself.
This week, Daniel made it there. His body may act like it is ninety at times, but he still has a lot of life left in him. He wouldn't let us throw him a party, but I just can't let this milestone pass in silence. Forty is a big deal...especially since he will always be older than me! In celebration, here are 40 things that you might not know about Daniel. On the 10th day of each month, I take 10 random pictures. You get a chance to see what I see when I come home from work each day.
This month I was finally able to get a new computer which then enabled me to purchase a new photo editing program. I am loving Lightroom 6, but still have so much to learn. Welcome to May 10th...down on the farm.
In honor of Mother's Day, I thought we would take a look at our most recent mother here on the farm. We have only had one calf this year, so we only have one mother. There are two calves coming soon, but they are not going to make it in time for Mother's Day.
I guess this was actually a Mother's weekend. Back in February, the boys were going to a show by themselves. We had back to back show weekends, and I had a lot of things that I needed to get done at home. It was also hot and heavy into calving season at another show family's farm. We decided to compromise. Daniel, our boys, and Nick would go to the show and Rog and I would hold things down at the home/farm front. On show day, Rog and I would head down to the show. It was the perfect plan to manage responsibilities and still support our kids.

AuthorHello! I am Heather... the city girl turned mom to manure loving country boys. My husband and I both grew up in the city, but spent weekends visiting grandparents in the country. We are first generation farmers who learn best by almost always doing things the hard way. I hope you enjoy following along with our adventures down on the farm. Archives
