It isn't very often that I have a Saturday at home with no plans or deadlines. This weekend, Daniel and the boys were off on a "boys trip" and I was home alone...which I always enjoy. The cooler fall temperatures have finally arrived and I had to drag out a jacket to head to the barn for morning chores. It was such a cool, clear perfectly peaceful fall morning. I finished chores and then grabbed my camera. It amused me that the calves aren't much different than my teens. Any time they can congregate together away from the watchful eyes of adults, they do. But I broke up that party. They were ready for some morning play... And Nash was more than eager to join in the fun. Nash turned one year old this weekend. It's hard to believe...especially since he is still all rotten puppy! As I popped over the hill, I found the rest of the herd. Usually, when I look at a picture like this, all I can see are the dead trees in the fence row. But, this picture doesn't bother me. For one, I see the beautiful color just starting to pop. Also, I know those trees are coming down very, very soon. Two weeks ago, Daniel and the boys spent every evening trimming trees and cleaning out the fence row. They reclaimed over 6 feet of hay field. Not only did we regain precious real estate, but it looks amazing too. Now there is nothing in the way of us dropping all those dead trees. We don't have any firewood cut for this year, so this our next project. Thankfully, it is close to home. They plan on dropping a few trees each evening (it was really the plan for this week, but a trip to the emergency room kind of through our week into a tail spin...don't worry, everyone is O.K.). This is the perfect opportunity to train the boys more on the chainsaws, practice dropping trees in the perfect spot (not on the fence) and making sure we stay warm this winter. As soon as the calves made it back to the "adults" they immediately headed for some breakfast. One of these doesn't look like the other ones... But Mini fits in just fine around here. Angel has always been something special... In more ways than one! You might also like...
