What Mom Really Wants for Mother's Day

As a mom approaching Mother's Day, let me help you out and give you a little insight into what moms really want for Mother's Day.

I'm a farm mom.  I am not high maintenance...or at least I don't think so...and I really don't want flowers.

I know...I just burst a lot of bubbles.

I am not a big flower person.

Yes...I do enjoy getting flowers...but really...I think cut flowers are a waste of money.

And yes...my family is very well aware of my thoughts on this.  The flowers die in a few days...and then the gift is gone.

I don't plant annual flowers because I am cheap and they are just too much work.  I'm all about the perennials that do all the work for me each year.

Each year, the boys buy me 2 hanging baskets to hang from the decorative hummingbird hooks they bought me for Mother's Day a few years ago.  It is an easy way to add a pop of color to our house, I only have two things to water, and it usually takes me a little longer to kill them.

If your mom is someone who really likes flowers, what do you do now that I burst that bubble?

What a mom really wants is...

Someone to weed the flower bed, plant the flowers if that's her thing, and spread the mulch.  All while she is sipping lemonade on the porch.

That's what will really make her smile!

So, you can probably tell I am ultra-practical.  I would much rather have a new doorknob than most anything else.  Most people think that's not a gift, but I do.  It's those pesky house things that make us growl every time we use them that we really want fixed.

Every time I open the pantry with that nice new door knob, I remember how much I am loved.

I smile instead of growl.

And remember...if Mamma ain't happy, nobody is happy!
If you would rather pamper mom, give her a Stitch Fix gift card.

Men are not good clothes shoppers (except Daniel is pretty good), especially if we have had a few too many cookies over the winter months.

Stitch Fix is my best friend!

Not only do I not have to go to the mall, but someone with much better taste than me gets to pick out my clothes.  It's like Christmas...after Christmas.

And the best part is...you can buy Stitch Fix gift cards at Kroger...on Saturday...or on Mother's Day (or you can order them online).

And while you are in Kroger...be sure to pick up groceries to fix Mom that special meal.  Regardless of what gift you buy...she is NOT TO COOK OR DO DISHES on Mother's Day!!!

Never.

Ever.

If that means going to a restaurant, that is great.  If you don't want to go to a restaurant...be prepared to fix her something good to eat.

All we ask is for just one day to not have to think about food.  We just want to eat it!
If you want to get Mom a practical pampering gift, get her an inverted umbrella.

Have you seen the inside out umbrellas?

They fold up backwards so the water doesn't dump in your lap when you get in the car.

I can't remember the last time I went to the grocery store when it wasn't raining.  If you have to grocery shop...and in the rain...at least the blue skies umbrella will put a smile on your face.

Not all gifts require money.  Sometimes we just want some help.

As a farm mom, keeping a clean house is a constant losing battle.  We just endured all the social media posts about spring cleaning.

Spring cleaning...what is that?

I'm lucky to get the basic bathroom cleaning done and you expect me to disinfect the doorknobs and shake out the rugs?

So be a dear...and do some cleaning for mom.

You can do the basics like cleaning the bathroom and vacuuming the stairs, or you can do some of the deep cleaning like attacking the dust bunnies under the bed.  The basic cleaning will free up time for mom to do some deep cleaning, and the deep cleaning will help mom not feel guilty every time she opens Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest.  Win, win either way.

And if you are a super duper special person...you will wash some windows.  Especially the ones that require a ladder.

I know this all sounds boring and practical....but for those of us that are boring and practical...it is exactly what we want.  I promise.  Don't feel guilty...we will love you to pieces.
Mother's Day is one of those days we just want to take a break.  We want to sit on the couch or enjoy the sunshine from the front porch without feeling guilty for not doing the mom stuff.

So what do I really want for Mother's Day this year?  A clothes rack in the basement to hold all the Carhartts and hunting gear that is too small for one and too big for the other.

How is that a gift for me?

Because I will be able to get my coat out of the closet without three others falling out with it.

Hello!  I am Heather... the city girl turned mom to manure loving country boys. My husband and I both grew up in the city, but spent weekends visiting grandparents in the country.  We are first generation farmers who learn best by almost always doing things the hard way.  I hope you enjoy following along with our adventures down on the farm.
