Things We Love...Boot Dryer

5/15/2017

When I was growing up, I had never heard of a thing call a boot dryer.

If our boots got wet, there was only one way to dry them.

Put them upside down on one of the heating registers.

Except...I grew up in the city...and the only time our boots got wet was when we were out playing in the snow.

Fast forward 20 years, and someone always has wet boots.

All year long.
You see...

We wear boots all year long...and those boots are worked in.

Whether it is muck boots, cowboy boots or school shoes, our footwear is put to the test.

Sometimes someone forgets to change out of his school shoes before going out to the barn...and you know none of his classmates want to smell that "perfume"!

Sometimes they forget that dewy grass is wet...really wet.

Sometimes they have water fights when washing cows...

And sometimes someone steps in mud that goes up over the top and right down inside those mud boots...

Or someone has a hole in the side of their new mud boots.  We really shouldn't complain because our Muck boots see a lot of day in and day out abuse...but really?  How is it that Isaac always manages to blow out the side of his boots?

And don't forget those hot summer days where your feet have been sweating in hot mud boots.

Are you grossed out yet?

Don't worry, there is more than one way to clean a boot, and it usually involves a hose.

But, then you have to dry them out.

But, when the furnace isn't running, there is no air coming from those registers.

What do we do?

We have an arsenal of boot dryers.
There are many types and styles of boot dryers, but our favorite is the Peet portable dryer.

The reason we like this one is because it is simple and compact.  There isn't a timer that turns off after 4 hours and it doesn't take up a ton of room in the closet, but it does a great job.  The dryers tuck deep down into the toe of the boots and gets those hard to reach areas.

We plug the dryer in at night, and by morning, the boots are dry and ready for another long day of work.

Our favorite feature?

They are so small and light weight they are easy to throw into a suitcase to take with you wherever you go.

Because...you know we don't take those vacations where you ditch the shoes and wiggle your toes in the sand.

Nope...our vacations always include some sort of boot wearing adventure.

Hello!  I am Heather... the city girl turned mom to manure loving country boys. My husband and I both grew up in the city, but spent weekends visiting grandparents in the country.  We are first generation farmers who learn best by almost always doing things the hard way.  I hope you enjoy following along with our adventures down on the farm.
