Things We Love -LED Lights

With cooler weather comes shorter days and longer nights.  It also means doing chores in the dark, especially now that we are spending late nights in the barn getting cows ready for the fall show season.

The older Daniel gets, the more light he wants.  The brighter the better!

I do have my limits.  Daniel is more than welcome to that LED ultra bright blue light in the barn, garage and basement, but I get the soft warm light in the house.
If you know anything about Daniel, you know that he is always looking for the greatest, newest and brightest flashlight.  We have more lights than we can count...partly because no one can ever find one that is charged.

And that's not to mention all the lights in his tool bag and work truck.  I guess there are some things I am better off not knowing.

A while back, the boys made a Saturday morning run into the local tractor dealership for some parts.  They came home with an extra large bill because right there next to the register where the newest in LED bulbs.  They were a little pricey, but super bright and they even went back and bought more.

These lights just screw into a normal light socket with 3 bat wings that can be adjusted to shine the light wherever you need it.

Until....momma found similar lights with 4 bat wings for half the price.  You would have thought it was Christmas around here.

We are currently renting a barn for our show animals.  It is an older barn with just basic bulbs.  It works for what we need, but parts of the barn are very dark.  I guess the cows don't really mind, but clipping can be a challenge when you are dodging the shadows.

These bulbs are the perfect solution.  We don't have permission nor want to invest in electrical upgrades on a barn that we are just renting.  These bulbs are a cost effective way to light it up without making any permanent changes.  If we ever leave the barn, we can just unscrew the bulbs and take them with us.

It's amazing the difference.  Yes, I know...the lights are so bright I had a hard time getting a decent picture.

Just move the wings up and down to focus the light on corners or specific problem areas.

Last week we had the vet out and we just moved one of the wings to shine down on the chute while he was working with one of the cows.  Then, when he was done, we just tilted it back up to shine out into the room.
These LED lights would also be great for basements, closets, garages or anywhere that you need some extra light.

We have most of the barn lights switched over, but there are still a few of the incandescent 100 watt bulbs in places.  Once the barn is fully stocked, we are moving on to our dungeon of a basement.

Yes, the joys of old houses....but next time we have to nurse a calf from our basement, at least we will have enough light to read the medication labels.

Hello!  I am Heather... the city girl turned mom to manure loving country boys. My husband and I both grew up in the city, but spent weekends visiting grandparents in the country.  We are first generation farmers who learn best by almost always doing things the hard way.  I hope you enjoy following along with our adventures down on the farm.
