This past week has been interesting... To say the least. As the Coronavirus has spread, so have the cancellations of schools, mass gatherings, and life as we know it. Included in the cancellations is the Ohio Beef Expo. But the sale will go on! Daniel and Gene Steiner, our sale manager, have taxed the life of their cell phone batteries making plans to move the Miniature Hereford sale to an online only platform, shut down show operations and figure out the next steps. All the breeders have been busy taking videos of their sale animals and compiling additional information to add to the online auction that will still be hosted on Breeder's World this coming Saturday, March 21st. Stay tuned for more pictures, videos and information to be posted to their website later this week. Things have been moving at the speed of light and we are all struggling to keep up...but we will move on. We are so fortunate to be working with an organization as great as the Ohio Cattlemen's Association. They have been working diligently to keep us all informed and get information out to us as quickly as possible. I know there are still many unanswered questions, but we are working through the logistics together. They have been an amazing support to the breeders, exhibitors and vendors. The good news is...
We can't help but think about all the opportunities and money we have lost this week, but there are always those who are going through so much more than we are. My heart was breaking for those at the Houston Livestock Show. At least we had a week to come to grips with losing the Ohio Beef Expo. I love what Ryan Rash posted on his Facebook page earlier this week. To all of the thousands livestock kids across Texas I know your heart is broken and I promise we all share in your pain! I just talked to a young man on the phone and I can’t remember ever being so emotional on a phone call! Nobody and no words can ease this aching in your heart and nothing can remedy what you will forever wonder about what might could of been. I am not in your situation today but trust me I have been in a similar place and I realize more than you can even imagine the emotions you are feeling right now of not having that chance you want so much. I can’t promise any of you that there will be another show opportunity, there will be another animal like the one you had ready, or that you will ever forget this moment or ever not wonder what the outcome might have been! But, I want each of you to remember these few words “When we give up on what was and embrace what is, that is when things we thought were improbable or impossible magically happen before our eyes!” Never quit believing in yourself or in the beauty of your dreams and I promise you will all be rewarded and be a champion in some aspect of life even tho it may not be a show arena! All my love to each of you! While we don't know what the future holds and it seems life is changing by the hour, we have hope. Hope in a God who is always in control, especially when we feel like we have lost all control. I have had my good days and my bad days...but then I went to the store on Saturday. No, I didn't buy toilet paper, peanut butter, pasta or anything else like that...we just needed plumbing supplies and stuff to make banana pudding....gotta keep the men happy. Going to town was exactly what I needed...because all you can do is laugh! You might also like...
