The Ohio Beef Expo is Just Around the Corner

It was only a few short years ago that we made our showing debut.

In July of 2012, Isaac showed a Miniature Hereford at the Knox county fair as part of his 4-H project. Boy, were we in over our heads.

It was our vet that encouraged us to show at the Ohio Beef Expo. After being completely overwhelmed at the county fair, there was no way we were going to embarrass ourselves at a show as big as the Beef Expo.

We talked ourselves into it, and in 2013 we attended the Ohio Beef Expo for the first time.

Looking back, it was the best decision we ever made...or the worst.

That show gave us the fever for the show ring and there has been no turning back.

You see, we were dumber than a box of rocks, complete rookies, and I am sure everyone was wondering who these crazy people were.

We showed up with one grass fed heifer, because we were too green to know that show cattle are usually fed grain. We didn't have a clue how to clip or fit, and we didn't even own a pair of clippers.

Luck was on our side that week, because Isaac walked out of the show ring as Reserve Grand Champion. We were so new to showing, we didn't even know that a belt buckle was the usual award given to the winners.

A lot has changed since 2013, but the joy and excitement is still as strong as the day we started.

It is once again time to register your animals to show in the Miniature Hereford show at the Ohio Beef Expo.

If you are new to showing, don't be intimidated. The Ohio Beef Expo is a great place to get your feet wet. The Miniature Hereford breeders are a great group of people who love to welcome new people into our circle.

We have all started somewhere and many of us started right here at the Ohio Beef Expo.

The Ohio Beef Expo will always hold a special place in our hearts.

It is where this crazy show life all began.

It is where we met so many people that we now call our good friends.

It is where we have learned more than we ever dreamed we could.

It is where we have met so many of you.

Each year the cattle are different, some of the people are different, but the excitement of the show, the joy of meeting new people, and the hope for great success are still the same.

It is easy for us to say the Ohio Beef Expo is our favorite show of the year!
