This is Us - our life, our story, our farm

Facebook and Instagram are full of picture perfect moments.  Even life on the farm is usually beautiful and clean.

But is it really like that in real life?

Farms are working operations.  We have messy stuff and piles of things that we may need some day.  Broken pieces and parts that need to be thrown away...or when you live in the country...hauled to the dump.  There isn't time to do it all, so something has to give.  Usually, that pile stays until Spring.

I have a pretty amazing life.  I love my family and this farm we live on, but I don't want you to think for one minute that my life is all picture perfect.

Today, there are some pretty pictures, but I also step back and turn around to show you what is on the other side.  Cameras and photo editing can make things seem better than they really are.

Barbie is the newest edition to our herd.

She may be posing for her picture...

But just outside the frame there is some butt licking going on.

I love driving down the road and seeing the perfect line of bales all stacked and ready for the winter.
Picture
Except for the one lone bale that fell off and is now sitting in the drive way.

Miss Gray may only have one eye, but she is the best mouser in the barn.
Picture
But take a full view shot of her home.

Not quite sure how we are supposed to get a cow in and out of that stall back there...

The barn was just cleaned out a couple of weeks ago, so this is relatively clean and organized.

Daisy loves to be in the action, but this cold has been brutal on her bad hips.  Once she is down, she doesn't want to get up...but she always has an eye on things.

What is she keeping her eye on?

All of this!

We leave for the show in Louisville this week.  The trailer had to be unpacked, organized and repacked just so we could fit everything in.

That is a lot of stuff...and it's only part of it.

Because here comes the feed.

They had better leave room for my suitcase!

Our lives may not always be picture perfect, but this is my perfect life.

Hello!  I am Heather... the city girl turned mom to manure loving country boys. My husband and I both grew up in the city, but spent weekends visiting grandparents in the country.  We are first generation farmers who learn best by almost always doing things the hard way.  I hope you enjoy following along with our adventures down on the farm.
