This is Us - our life, our story, our farm

The calendar may say it's spring, but here in Ohio we know that spring means we are in for a roller coaster ride.

This weekend we were at the top with warm sunshiny days.  It reminded us that spring really is here and summer is right around the corner.
Picture
We are seeing everything come to life and it gives new energy and hope for things to come.

The grass is starting to green up.  We still have a long way to go, but the warmer temperatures and sunshine this weekend made a huge difference.  It won't be long before we have the mowers out.
An old dog
Daisy is really slowing down these days and only does what she wants when she wants.  She doesn't follow us around like she used to, but she enjoys soaking up the sunshine and keeping an eye on all the action.
Farm mouse control
Sylvie is full of life and rarely stops long enough for a picture.

She must be on the hunt for a mouse.

The flowers are making their appearance.
Chicken eggs
And the chickens are keeping us fed.
German Shepherd puppy
Nash is growing so fast.

He loves to be outside...we just need to figure out how to let him be a farm dog while staying clean enough to be a house dog.
Miniature Hereford cows in spring mud
Things are starting to dry up in the barn yard...for now.

This is Ohio after all, so the mud will return at any time.

We spent spring break bringing in loads of gravel.  We may not be able to keep the cows out of the mud, but we can now keep ourselves and the equipment on solid ground.
Old cabin in the woods
We took a few moments to enjoy the warmth of spring and took a walk in the woods.

Daniel stumbled upon this cabin with his Grandpa when he was young.  It has been at least 20 years, but he remembered the spot.
Collapsed cabin in the woods
It's not the same as it was back then.

It echoes of times gone by...

Who lived here?

How did they get back here so far off the beaten path?

What stories do these broken down walls hold?

With each winter comes a new spring.  Life begins a new as we put the past behind us...

Looking forward to what is yet to come.

Hello!  I am Heather... the city girl turned mom to manure loving country boys. My husband and I both grew up in the city, but spent weekends visiting grandparents in the country.  We are first generation farmers who learn best by almost always doing things the hard way.  I hope you enjoy following along with our adventures down on the farm.
