Later this week we will be heading to Louisville, Kentucky for the North American International Livestock Expo.
This week is always bitter sweet for us... It is the start of show season, which is always exciting... But, it is also the end of the peace and calm...at least until March.
Nick is going to join us again this year and the boys (Daniel included) couldn't be happier.
I even bought obscene amounts of Mt. Dew for him. Last week, he came over to help Daniel do a rough clip on all the cows we are taking with us. They will need more work, but we will add finishing touches when we get to the show.
Two clipper boxes that have seen a lot of cows...
I will let you guess which one belongs to Daniel and which one belongs to Nick.
We spent the weekend making last minute preparations for the trip to Louisville.
The cows got their final baths and final practices. I bought an incredible amount of snacks and junk food to take with us. I usually throw nutrition to the wind at shows. Buying food at the venues costs a fortune, so we take what we can. Everyone grazes and grabs what they want when they have time. I try to pack at least a few healthy things...but no one usually touches them. It's the only time I buy them snacks and junk food, so I guess they are entitled to a treat every now and then. At least we go out to eat for dinner and try to get something semi-nutritious each evening.
We started loading the trailer.
When we bought our trailer, we thought it would be plenty big enough. Turns out...we keep taking more cows and acquiring more equipment.
It takes a lot of planning to get everything to fit just right.
Walker is tightening everything down and making sure it is secured. There is still a lot that can't be loaded until the last minute...but at least we have a good start.
We had some good helpers today...
But...we always do.
The Miniature Hereford show is Thursday, November 16th at 1:00 p.m..

Below is the video of last year's show. The Miniature Hereford Junior Show begins at 5:09.
The boys are excited.
They get out of a couple of days off school...don't worry...there will be lots of homework getting done in the truck. This is the final push. It is always hard to stay motivated in the last couple days...but the finish line is in sight. Everything is coming together and the really fun part is just around the corner.
