We are in the final stretch of preparation for the Ohio Beef Expo. While we have been working up to this week for a long time, this weekend was consumed with last minute preparations for the big week. To make things even crazier, we had 2 calves last week. We wanted to go into this week all rested, but instead, we are heading into the week already exhausted from all of the middle of the night barn checks. Saturday night about did me in with the time change and my alarm going off every 2 hours to make sure someone got up for their shift of barn checks. We had wanted to give everyone a good final bath this weekend, but it has been a true Ohio winter. Warm during the week and then turning frigid just in time for the show. It was just too cold to wash, but everyone did get a good workout. The boys had each of the show animals on a halter walking and practicing for the show ring. Charity and Amber have been in the show ring all winter, but Saxon needed some reminders since it has been a while. Rocky is still getting fine tuned, but I think everyone is about ready. We will be sure to work all the cows a few more time while at the Expo, and hope to get everyone a glimpse of the show arena before show day. The show box has been cleaned out. A winter full of showing can leave the show box looking like a dumpster. The trailer is about half loaded and I am working on packing all the snacks and food for the week. Teachers have been notified and warned that homework done in the barn is usually not done well. How can you expect them to concentrate on homework when there are cows around? The Expo schedule has been changed up a bit this year. Some of the youth activities have moved up a day causing other events to be moved. The Miniature Hereford show has been moved to 8:30 a.m. on Friday morning, but will still be held in Cooper Arena. The Miniature Herefords will once again be on display in the sale barn (O'Neill building). Please take time to stop by and see us. We love meeting new people and re-connecting with old friends.
