Am I the Last Person on Earth...

Am I the last person on Earth to jump on the Amazon Prime bandwagon?

About this time last year, I realized that I was pretty much the only person who didn't have Amazon Prime.

To be honest...I thought it was pretty dumb.  Why pay a fee to get my orders in 2 days, when I can get my order in 5 days if I meet the minimum order?  Besides, how hard is it to find $25 worth of items you want to buy from Amazon?

But then, my wonderful husband ordered a Christmas gift for me off of Amazon.  He promptly told me I was not allowed to look at the Amazon account or open e-mails sent from Amazon (the trials of buying your spouse a gift).

He then went on to tell me that he got a free offer for Amazon Prime.

I asked him when the free offer expired?  "I don't know...I didn't look at that part."
You do know they will automatically charge your credit card for the Amazon Prime monthly fee if you don't cancel in the allotted time?

"I thought it was a good deal, so I pressed yes.  I didn't read all the details."

Can you tell who does all the shopping around here?

Well, needless to say...I guessed the wrong date and didn't get the free trial cancelled in time.  I wasn't too upset, because I had an ulterior motive...and it was only $12.99.

You see, I have had a long standing hate relationship with our satellite TV provider.  Normally that sentence would include love/hate....but there is absolutely NO love when it comes to satellite TV.  I had been begging Daniel for years to let me cancel our satellite provider...and if you have ever tried to cancel, you know that process will just make you angry.

We already had Netflix and were learning the ropes of web based programing and we were actually enjoying it.  When I realized I had missed the deadline to cancel Amazon Prime, I made a deal with the family.  I told them to use the Amazon Prime streaming service for the month that we accidentally had it and see if they liked the programming.  If they did, we were finally going to cancel our satellite service.

By the end of that month, we hadn't even switched over to our satellite service, so we knew we would be just fine with Netflix and Amazon Prime.  The boys found some shows on Amazon Prime that they really love, and Daniel and I introduced them to the good ole' family friendly sitcoms we watched as kids.

So, with the promise to temporarily purchase live stream programming during college football season, we very joyously cancelled our satellite service!

It was the best accidental Christmas present ever!

And it is really nice to get our packages really quickly.  Sometimes, we even get them the next day.

Living and shopping in a small town can sometimes be a challenge.   It can be difficult to find many items, especially those unique items, in the stores that we have available to us.  So, I always check out Amazon.  For instance, Daniel fell in love with Burt's Bees hand lotion I bought at our local Walmart.  When I went back to purchase more, they no longer carried it.  Amazon to the rescue!

"Town" is about 15 minutes the opposite direction of my daily commute.  That means that I only make it to "town" on the weekends, and I don't go every weekend.

I am sure none of you have ever had your kid come home from school on Monday afternoon only to tell you that they need to have a certain item for a school project no later than Friday.  Well, since I was just in town and don't plan on going back until Saturday...Amazon delivers it on Wednesday!

Besides...have you ever tried to find 2 inch poster letters that don't involve glitter at your local Walmart?  Boys do not like glitter!
So why should you care about Amazon Prime?

Because, unfortunately it is that time of year when everyone skips over Thanksgiving and jumps right into Christmas shopping.

I don't even know how many Black Friday preview ads I saw this week.

My mind is on planning the Louisville show, and for some reason my family keeps asking me for details of our Thanksgiving dinner.

I can't even begin to think about Thanksgiving plans, let alone Christmas shopping!

Except...we are celebrating Christmas with our out-of-state family on Thanksgiving.

Good thing I have Amazon Prime, because I think I am going to need that extra fast shipping this year.

And if you are still on the fence...Netflix and Amazon Prime combined is 1/4 what we were paying for our satellite service.

So, if you haven't jumped on the Amazon Prime bandwagon and you aren't sure if it is right for you, what better time than the Christmas shopping season to try it out?  You can click here to start your own 30 day free trial.  Yes, it is 30 days for free...so make a note on your calendar in 29 days to cancel if you aren't hooked...but my guess is...you will just let that cancellation date slide right on by.

Hello! I've been following your blog for a while as I am interested in smaller breeds of cattle. I've just been following along as I'm just learning what I want, etc.

Anyhow, I thought I would respond to this particular post as I do have experience with Amazon Prime (for years actually). And I'm finding my husband and I are really seeing the benefit of Netflix/fire stick TV. We've had Direct TV for years (Husband and sons got it for me for my birthday around 20 years ago. Oh, and surprise, they got me the NFL package too :P). We are now thinking of ditching Direct TV. Hesitating because we want to see if maybe Amazon/fire stick might start raising the rent, so to speak, if they find out we don't have Direct TV any more.

I really enjoy your blog.

Terri
