I am not a goal setter. I think it is because I am like most people and peter out after a few weeks or months. Then I am a failure because I didn't complete my goal and a failure at goal setting. It just doesn't help the momentum or ego. But, I do enjoy looking back at the previous year to see what I have accomplished. I call it reverse goal setting. Looking back at all we have accomplished, just motivates me to keep plugging along. Twelve pictures...one highlight from each month. JanuaryWe learned to ski...and sure felt it the next day. FebruaryIsaac got his temps. MarchRibbon won Reserve Division and Best of the Buckeye at the Ohio Beef Expo. AprilIsaac had an early surprise 16th birthday party where he got his first truck. MayWalker and I won first place in our photography divisions at the B.E.S.T. banquet. JuneDaniel, Nick, Isaac and Walker headed to Kearney, Nebraska for the Miniature Hereford Junior Nationals. JulyGood results at The Knox County Fair. AugustChampion Pair of Females and more at The Ohio State Fair. SeptemberDaniel perfecting his smoking skills. A weekend with 4-wheelers, hiking, food, family and friends. OctoberA family outing to the PBR and an early Christmas present of new cowboy hats. NovemberA good week at the North American International Livestock Expo...mostly good. DecemberA new puppy...that is trying my patience. There is a whole lot of action between each of these pictures, and some of the things we are most proud of can't be captured in a picture. 2018 was a year of accomplishing some huge things in our lives...none of which we had planned.
At times, I think we "plan" too much. Sometimes, you just have to keep plodding along, doing what you are supposed to be doing, and amazing things will happen. I know... some see that and think about how much more we could accomplish if we had a goal and a plan to reach that goal. Our lives are very full, and at this point in our lives, I think we "plan" enough. For us, the struggle is to slow down and enjoy these moments. That's why, for us, plodding along on the path we want to go has worked for us. It helps us balance staying in the moment with accomplishing great things. Last year we had some pretty low lows, but we also had some amazing highs. Those highs helped to carry us through the lows. Here's to an amazing 2019...without the lows!
