10 on the 10th - January 2016

I have decided to start a new challenge for myself this year.  On the 10th day of each month, I am going to take 10 pictures.  I want to do this for several reasons. 

• I am hoping that it will help me to improve my camera skills and force me to continue learning about my camera. 
• It will force me to sharpen my photo editing skills.
• It will force me to look at some of the less obvious things around me.  10 pictures doesn't seem like a lot until you are on number 6 and have run out of ideas.  As the year progresses, it will be harder and harder to come up with new and interesting angles, so it will really encourage me to change my perspective.
• It will give you a glance at some of the more ordinary parts of our farm and life.
• It will serve as a documentary of the changes on the farm, the changing seasons and the differences in our schedule

I will post my 10 pictures on the Saturday following the 10th of each month.

On January 10, 2016...

We had our first measurable snow of the year.

​Wish all that wood was in the basement.

We started a fire for the first time this winter.  This is the longest we have ever gone without a fire.  It was nice having the warmer weather and not having to burn through the wood (especially since we only have about 1/3 of a normal winter's supply cut), but we sure are loving the cozy warm heat from the fire.

I love Daisy...as long as she doesn't rub up against me after she has been rolling in the manure pile.

I think Mitchell has something here.  Not only is he inches away from his food, his entire head is protected from the cold wind.  He is so comfortable that he doesn't even care that I am interrupting.

What would we do without tank heaters?

There is nothing like Hereford hair...

And snowy backs.

After being out in the cold, there is nothing that I would rather do than curl up on the couch with a good book.
