For every minute in the show ring, there are hours and hours spent back in the barn. Two fairs...lots and lots of barn time. I think every show box is equipped with at least one deck of cards.

Last week you saw all the high points of Junior Nationals. This week, I thought I would show you some of the behind the scenes happenings of our trip to Claremore, Oklahoma.
These are the unedited as they happened moments... We had 4 days in a row without rain! And then it rained again... But in those 4 days, the ground did dry up enough that we were actually able to get out and about a little bit. Yep...that is one big pile of poop.
The calendar may say it's spring, but here in Ohio we know that spring means we are in for a roller coaster ride.
This weekend we were at the top with warm sunshiny days. It reminded us that spring really is here and summer is right around the corner. This weekend was the last regular show of the BEST season. We were all at the show this weekend...including Nash. We were all needed because with two rings of showmanship things got a little chaotic at times. But, we tag teamed and each took a kid...and everyone made it to their appropriate ring on time. Show day is a mix of taking your time...hurrying up...and then lots of waiting. Next up is the grand finale at the Ohio Beef Expo. You might also like...
This weekend we took a little road trip. We have family in West Virginia that own a full-sized Hereford operation. We haven't been down to the farm in several years and happened to have a free weekend, so we decided late Thursday night to make an impromptu trip. We got up early Saturday morning and drove a few hours south. We have been to one of the farms before, but it has been several years.
In fact, Isaac has bought two of his 4-H steers from this farm. It's been a while since I have had my camera out. I am kind of stuck in a rut. I needed some motivation, and this weekend created the perfect opportunity. Our first real snow of the year. Snow on their backs means they are happy and healthy.
This is Blast... A bull we raised, sold and then bought back this summer.
The boys....
I mean Daniel.... Got a new toy. They decided that they just had to have a drone. They really wanted to take aerial pictures of the farm for the website...in other words...they were trying to sell me on it. We finally went found time to get out of town for a few days of rest and relaxation...well sort of...Daniel is still working. I am also taking a break from the computer. So I will make this short and leave you with a few photos from this summer.
The calendar may still say it is Spring, but in our books... Summer is here! We are spending this weekend taking one last breath, because tomorrow... Summer is on! Spring is supposed to be relatively calm for us. This year... it was NOT! Somehow we jumped from a winter that wouldn't end straight into Summer weather. I am not sure what happened...but our heads are still spinning. Tomorrow, the boys will start washing calves every day. Since it is only about 3 weeks until they will be leaving for junior nationals, we have some ground to make up, so they are supposed to wash Ribbon, Jewel and Apollo twice a day. I already know this summer is going to fly by.... But for a moment... Take a look at our not so chaotic spring (ha! if you only knew that it felt like total mayhem). You might also like...

AuthorHello! I am Heather... the city girl turned mom to manure loving country boys. My husband and I both grew up in the city, but spent weekends visiting grandparents in the country. We are first generation farmers who learn best by almost always doing things the hard way. I hope you enjoy following along with our adventures down on the farm. Archives
